Vikings Extend GM Kwesi Adofo-Mensah in Multi-Year Deal

The Minnesota Vikings have signed GM Kwesi Adofo-Mensah to a multi-year extension, securing their front office leadership ahead of the 2025 NFL season.

On Friday, the Minnesota Vikings are solidifying their leadership that announcing a multi-year contract extension for the general manager Kwesi Adofo-Mensah. The move comes as the franchise looks to build on recent regular-season success.

Adofo-Mensah, who joined the Vikings in 2022, has helped guide Minnesota to a 34-17 regular season record over the past three seasons. While the team is still seeking its first postseason win under his tenure (0-2 in the playoffs), ownership is clearly confident in the direction he’s steering the organization.

According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, the new deal has been in the works for several weeks. While the terms of the extension haven’t been disclosed, it follows the team’s decision in January to also lock in head coach Kevin O’Connell on a multi-year deal.

The pairing of O’Connell and Adofo-Mensah has delivered strong regular-season performances, and most notably in 2024, when the Vikings won 14 games with great quarterback Sam Darnold who stepped in after rookie JJ McCarthy suffered a season-ending injury before the campaign began.

Now, the Vikings are preparing for the next chapter with McCarthy at the center of it.

McCarthy Draws Praise During OTAs

Selected by Adofo-Mensah in a bold trade-up during the 2024 NFL Draft, JJ McCarthy is poised to take over as Minnesota’s starting quarterback in 2025. He’s already turning heads in organized team activities (OTAs).

“He’s done an unbelievable job,” head coach Kevin O’Connell told *The Athletic’s* Alec Lewis. “You forget this is his first real runway since the injury. It’s a credit to the work he’s put in.”

The coaching staff is focused on accelerating McCarthy’s development, pushing him to evolve while ensuring he never settles.

“We’re constantly making it feel like he’s growing,” O’Connell added, “but it’s never about him being comfortable or satisfied. We’re building toward something much bigger than any single play.”

With a full offseason to absorb the playbook and recover physically, McCarthy now has the opportunity to show what he can do on the field—and the Vikings have made sure the front office responsible for his development remains intact.
