Solano and Garver Lead Mariners to 6-4 Extra-Inning Victory Over Rangers

ARLINGTON, Texas – The Seattle Mariners once again leaned on late-game heroics, as Donovan Solano and Mitch Garver combined to drive in all six runs in a dramatic 6-4 win over the Texas Rangers on Sunday afternoon. It was the third straight extra-inning contest between the two teams, and Seattle came out on top in two of them.

Solano delivered a crucial RBI groundout in the 12th inning, breaking a 3-3 deadlock after Luke Raley advanced to third as the automatic runner. Mitch Garver followed it up by blasting a two-run homer deep into the left-field stands, putting the Mariners firmly in control at 6-3.

Garver, facing his former team, finished the day with four RBIs and three hits in six at-bats. Julio Rodríguez also tallied three hits and scored once for Seattle, who won both the opener and the series finale in 12 innings. Texas claimed Saturday’s game in 10 innings, 3-2.

The three-game stretch marked the first time the Rangers have played three consecutive extra-inning games in the same series since 2002, when they faced Seattle in a four-game series in which all games required extra frames.

Earlier in Sunday’s contest, Seattle grabbed a 3-1 lead in the 10th inning thanks to RBI singles from Solano and Garver. But Corey Seager answered with a two-run home run to left-center field off Carlos Vargas, tying the score at 3-3 and keeping the Rangers alive.

In the bottom of the 10th, rookie Alejandro Osuna made a standout defensive play for Texas, throwing out Cal Raleigh at the plate. The out would prove pivotal, as Seager’s home run could have otherwise given the Rangers the lead.

Reliever Trent Thornton (2-0) earned the win for Seattle, tossing two innings and striking out a pair, though he did allow Seager’s sacrifice fly in the 10th. Cole Winn (0-1) took the loss for Texas after giving up the go-ahead run and Garver’s two-run shot in the 12th.

Seager’s home run was his 10th of the season and continued a strong stretch for the Texas shortstop.

The Rangers have now played five extra-inning games since June 14 – the most in the league over that span – after not going past nine innings in any of their first 70 games this season. That streak extended to 95 straight games without extras, dating back to 2024, before this recent run.

What’s Next

The Mariners return home to Seattle after completing their second 10-game road trip of the month. They open a new series against the Kansas City Royals on Monday, with right-hander George Kirby (1-4, 5.40 ERA) slated to take the mound.

The Rangers continue their homestand with a matchup against the Baltimore Orioles. Lefty Patrick Corbin (4-7, 4.24 ERA) is expected to start for Texas.
