Real Madrid reportedly bar Trent Alexander-Arnold from bringing his prized possession to the Spanish giants.
Real Madrid’s sponsorship with BMW means Trent Alexander-Arnold won’t be driving his Range Rover in Spain after completing his £10 million transfer.
Trent Alexander-Arnold is set to leave Liverpool for a move to Spain, joining Real Madrid in a £10 million deal. However, he won’t be able to bring his prized possession with him because of club sponsorship restrictions. The defender will link up with his new teammates after completing international duty.
Real Madrid have prohibited Trent Alexander-Arnold from bringing his prized possession to Spain following his move from Liverpool.
The defender sparked outrage among Reds fans when he announced his departure to Spain, initially appearing set to leave on a free transfer after spending 20 years at his boyhood club.
Arne Slot’s side secured a £10 million fee from Madrid for Alexander-Arnold to join them early and take part in this summer’s Club World Cup.
The right back has signed a six-year contract with Real Madrid, which took effect on Sunday when the transfer window officially opened. Both clubs have confirmed the transfer.
But there’s one thing from home that he won’t be able to take to his new club in the form of his £130,000 Range Rover that he has been driving around England.
That’s because Madrid have a sponsorship agreement with BMW, which prevents players driving any other cars to the club’s training ground, according to El Motor.
The car manufacturer provides Real Madrid players with cars to use throughout the season, meaning they will hook up Alexander-Arnold with a new whip when he arrives in Spain.
The agreement includes plug-in hybrid and electric models, before they are sold by the manufacturer as pre-owned models.
Alexander-Arnold, who is currently on international duty with England, will still be able to drive an SUV, although it won’t be the Range Rover he’s been accustomed to while at Merseyside. Players like Kylian Mbappe and Jude Bellingham have chosen the BMW XM, which has a price tag of around £152,000 but will be provided to the defender at no cost.
The 26-year-old’s original car had a 4.4 V8 twin-turbo engine with a 530 horsepower and was priced at £130,000, though is now off the market.
It could reach 100kmh in 2.6seconds, but will not be seeing the streets of Madrid.
According to a report from Fabrizio Romano, Alexander-Arnold’s release clause will be €1 billion (£840 million).
The eye-watering figure means any prospective suitor looking to snare the 26-year-old from the Bernabeu in the future would need to cough up more than four times the current transfer world record.
