The Cleveland Browns made waves—literally—on July 23 as they introduced a franchise-first: a brown helmet. Dubbed the “Alpha Dawg,” the alternate lid marks a striking visual shift for a team coming off a frustrating 3-14 campaign.
The reveal was staged grandly along the shores of Lake Erie, where team officials and media gathered to unveil the helmet beside a massive replica display. But the event took a dramatic—and unplanned—turn when a photographer who attempted to snap the perfect shot stepped too close to the platform’s edge and accidentally fell into the lake.

The moment, captured on video and quickly shared across social media, temporarily stole the spotlight from the Browns’ new look.
Despite the incident, the organisation proceeded with its reveal. The new helmet features a matte brown finish with twin orange stripes and a brown facemask, complementing the team’s Colour Rush uniform in a fully monochromatic aesthetic.
Cleveland intends to wear the “Alpha Dawg” helmets in three home games this season, using the design as part of a broader effort to reset the tone heading into a crucial campaign.
While it remains to be seen if the style shift will coincide with on-field improvement, the Browns are signaling a desire for change. And if nothing else, their helmet launch proved memorable for more reasons than one.
