Najee Harris Suffers Minor Eye Injury During Fourth of July Incident, Expected to Be Ready for Chargers’ Season

Los Angeles Chargers running back Najee Harris sustained a minor eye injury during a Fourth of July gathering but is not expected to miss any time ahead of the 2025 NFL season.

The injury occurred at a holiday event involving fireworks, where several individuals were reportedly hurt. According to his agent, Doug Hendrickson, Harris was among those affected, but the issue appears to be minor.

“Najee Harris was present at a 4th of July event where a fireworks mishap resulted in injuries to several attendees,” Hendrickson said in a statement shared by NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport. “Najee sustained a superficial eye injury during the incident, but is fully expected to be ready for the upcoming NFL season.”

The Mercury News** was the first to report the accident.

Harris, 26, joined the Chargers earlier this offseason on a one-year deal worth up to $9.25 million. He previously spent four seasons with the Pittsburgh Steelers, where he built a reputation for durability and production. In every season with Pittsburgh, Harris surpassed 1,000 rushing yards, which he finished with over 4,300 rushing yards and 28 touchdowns across 68 games. He also recorded 1,149 receiving yards and six touchdowns through the air.

A former first-round pick (No. 24 overall) in the 2021 NFL Draft, Harris starred at Alabama before making the leap to the pros. He earned Pro Bowl honors as a rookie and has played in every regular-season game of his career to date

The Chargers expect Harris to play a key role in their revamped offense under head coach Jim Harbaugh as they attempt to bounce back in the AFC West. Barring any setbacks, he’ll be ready for training camp and the upcoming season.
