Oklahoma City, OK, Oklahoma City Thunder guard Alex Caruso is headed back to the NBA Finals, and he’s earning praise from one of the game’s all-time greats.
Following the Thunder’s dominant performance over the Minnesota Timberwolves in the Western Conference Finals, Los Angeles Lakers legend Magic Johnson took to social media to commend Caruso on his journey and success.
“Congratulations former Laker and NBA champion Alex Caruso who now plays for the Oklahoma City Thunder and is headed to the NBA Finals!” Johnson wrote.

Caruso, who went undrafted out of college, began his NBA career with the Lakers, spending four seasons in Los Angeles. He quickly became a fan favorite and a important role player on the 2020 championship team, which is known for his massive defense and hustle.
Despite his contributions, he remained underappreciated and eventually signed with the Chicago Bulls in free agency on a four-year, $37 million contract.
While Caruso made a strong presence in Chicago, his stint lasted just 3 seasons before being traded to the Thunder in exchange for Josh Giddey.
The move has proven to be a major win for Oklahoma City. Caruso’s big perimeter defense and high basketball IQ have been crucial in the Thunder’s playoff run, and his intensity and experience have helped channel the young Thunder squad to their first NBA Finals appearance in over a decade.
During Game 5 of the Western Conference Finals, Caruso played an omportant role as Oklahoma City closed out Minnesota at Paycom Center, sealing their ticket to the championship round.
Now 31, Caruso has found himself in a situation perfectly matched to his strengths. On a defensively team like the Thunder, his impact is magnified, something that wasn’t fully realized during his time with the Bulls team.
While Chicago fans may lament losing Caruso, his return to the Finals is a prove to his value and to the team.
