This year’s Club World Cup format brings together 32 teams representing all six FIFA confederations. At stake is not only global recognition, but also a share of the record-setting \$1 billion prize fund. The final is scheduled for July 13 at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey.

LAFC entered the tournament on a strong run, riding a 10-match unbeaten streak in all competitions. Their entry was sealed with a hard-fought 2-1 win over Club América from LIGA MX.

However, the team struggled in international play. They suffered a 2-0 defeat to Chelsea in their opening match and followed that with a narrow 1-0 loss to ES Tunis of Tunisia.

For manager Steve Cherundolo and his players, Tuesday’s match is about salvaging pride before returning to domestic duties in MLS, where they currently sit fifth in the Western Conference standings.

Qualification: 2022 Copa Libertadores Champions

Flamengo made headlines on Friday with a 3-1 win over Chelsea, courtesy of goals from Bruno Henrique, Danilo, and Wallace Yan. That result, combined with a previous 2-0 victory over ES Tunis, confirmed their advancement to the knockout stage.

The Brazilian side has looked sharp throughout the tournament. Giorgian De Arrascaeta and Jorginho have controlled the midfield tempo, while former Atlanta United winger Luiz Araújo has contributed with one goal and one assist in the opening match.

Before the global tournament began, Flamengo were sitting atop the table in the Brasileiro Série A. Under the guidance of head coach Filipe Luís, they are unbeaten in their last 10 matches across all competitions and now look to close out Group D in commanding fashion.
