Inter Milan Plan to Upset PSG’s Historic Champions League win

PSG face Inter Milan in the 2025 Champions League Final, as the French giants chase their first European title against a seasoned and resilient Italian side.

The Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) may be favourites going into this Saturday’s Champions League final game, but standing in their way is a determined Inter Milan side, which has been eying the title for the fourth European time.

The match will be in Munich, pitting the modern might of Qatar-backed PSG against the tradition and experience of one of Italy’s most popular clubs. Despite years of huge spending and domestic dominance, PSG are still searching for their win Champions League title in 14 years after the transformative Qatari takeover.

Their only previous final appearance came in 2020, a pandemic-era defeat to Bayern Munich in an empty Lisbon stadium. Since then, star names like Neymar, Lionel Messi, and now Kylian Mbappe have come and gone, but silverware at the continental level has remained unachieved

Ironically, the Parisians have succeeded in the first season without any of that trio. Under the guidance of Luis Enrique, a youthful PSG, boasting an average age of under 24 years old and has emerged as Europe’s surprise package.

After a stuttering group-stage campaign, which included a 1-0 defeat in Munich to Bayern, they surged back with a superb January comeback win over holders Manchester City. The result sparked a great achievement that saw them eliminate Premier League heavyweights Liverpool, Aston Villa, and Arsenal.

Leading the charge has been Ousmane Dembele, enjoying a career-best season with 33 goals. He has been ably supported by rising stars Desire Doue, Bradley Barcola, and January recruit Khvicha Kvaratskhelia. At the back, Achraf Hakimi, once of Inter, and Gianluigi Donnarumma have anchored a side that also secured the French domestic double.

“We have a clear identity,” said Luis Enrique, who is aiming for his second Champions League title after leading Barcelona to glory in 2015. “This group is fearless and focused. We want to become the first PSG team to lift the trophy—and make history for Paris.”

A win would see PSG become only the second French club to win Europe’s premier competition, following Marseille’s 1993 triumph, which, coincidentally, also took place in Munich—against Inter’s city rivals AC Milan.

Inter’s Experience

But Inter Milan are not new to the big stage games. The Nerazzurri are targeting to lift their fourth European Cup, which they had won it in 1964, 1965, and most recently in 2010 under José Mourinho.
Current head coach Simone Inzaghi guided them to the final in 2023, and many of the veterans from that narrow loss to Manchester City remain in the squad today.

Eight players from that final in Istanbul could start again on Saturday, bringing experience and cohesion to a side built on defensive solidity and tactical discipline. Inter, who knocked out Bayern Munich in the quarter-finals and overcame Barcelona in a memorable semi-final clash, will look to impose their tried-and-tested 3-5-2 system against PSG’s more fluid 4-3-3.

“Winning on Saturday is the only way to truly write our names in history,” said Inzaghi, whose probable lineup features several seasoned campaigners aged 36 and over. “We know we’re up against an exceptional team, but we’ve also proven ourselves against the best in Europe.”

Having narrowly missed out on the Serie A title to Napoli on the final day of the season, Inter will be determined to end their campaign on a high and spoil PSG’s quest for European validation.
