Henry Ruggs Expresses Regret to Victim’s Family at Prison Reform Event in Las Vegas

The former NFL wide receiver is serving a three-year prison sentence for the 2021 crash that killed 23-year-old Tina Tintor and her dog.

Henry Ruggs III has expressed remorse to the family of Tina Tintor, the young woman who lost her life in a fatal DUI crash in November 2021 involving the former NFL player.

At the time of the incident, Ruggs was a wide receiver for the Las Vegas Raiders. He later entered a guilty plea and, in May 2023, received a three-year prison sentence for his role in the crash.

Ruggs, 26, spoke publicly at a Hope for Prisoners event in Las Vegas, where he was granted special leave from prison on Tuesday, June 17. According to ESPN and the Las Vegas Review-Journal, which published footage of his appearance, Ruggs addressed Tintor’s family directly during his remarks.

“One, I wish I could turn back the hands of time,” Ruggs said in the video shared online. “I would love for them to meet the real Henry Ruggs and not the one that was escaping from something. I sincerely apologize for not only being a part of that situation, but the fact my face is always in the news, it’s always in the newspaper. So they have to constantly be reminded of the situation, be reminded of me.”

Tina Tintor and her three-year-old dog, Max, died in a fire that resulted from the early morning crash on November 2, 2021. Authorities said Ruggs was driving at a speed of 156 mph under the influence of alcohol when he rear-ended Tintor’s car near Spring Valley Parkway in Las Vegas. The impact caused her vehicle to burst into flames, killing both her and her dog.

At the time of the crash, Ruggs was with his girlfriend, Je’nai Kilgo-Washington, with whom he shares a daughter. According to the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department, Ruggs initially refused a field sobriety test. Subsequent reports revealed his blood alcohol level was twice the legal limit.

The former first-round draft pick eventually pleaded guilty to one count of DUI resulting in death and one misdemeanor count of vehicular manslaughter. His sentencing in May 2023 closed a high-profile chapter that had dominated NFL headlines since the incident.

In the days following the crash, Tintor’s family released a statement through their attorney, expressing the profound sorrow her loss brought them.

“Tina’s tragic loss has devastated her family beyond a grief they could ever comprehend,” attorney Farhan Naqvi said in a November 2021 statement. “Family was everything to Tina, and she was the light of her parents’ life.”
