Paris Saint-Germain is pushing to secure the signing of highly rated Argentine youngster Franco Mastantuono in a blockbuster transfer that could set up a new rivalry with Spain’s teenage sensation, Lamine Yamal.

But a new contender is emerging in Argentina.

Franco Mastantuono, also 17, has been making waves with River Plate and is already drawing comparisons to the sport’s elite. Arsenal and France legend Thierry Henry is among those who have been impressed, even suggesting Mastantuono could rival Yamal shortly.

Speaking on CBS Sports, Henry said:
“One thing that always amazes me in football is that you always think there’s no way someone will be better than Messi or Ronaldo. Then Yamal arrives, and now there’s a new guy in Argentina—Franco Mastantuono from River Plate, already scoring in derby games like his free-kick winner against Boca Juniors.”

According to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, PSG are actively working on a deal to bring Mastantuono to Paris as part of their summer transfer strategy. Club sporting director Luís Campos is reportedly a huge admirer of the young attacking midfielder, who has also caught the eye of top clubs in both England and Spain.

Talks are already underway between PSG and River Plate, though no agreement has been finalized yet. The French champions remain determined to secure the teenager’s signature as he turns 18 in August.

Mastantuono rose through River Plate’s academy ranks and recently broke into the first team. While he has yet to make his debut for Argentina’s senior national side, his rapid rise suggests it’s only a matter of time.
