Match preview
Home field hasn’t offered much of an edge for FC Dallas in 2025. The club enters this match with just one home win this season, tied for the fewest in MLS.
That’s a notable drop-off compared to last year, when their performances at Toyota Stadium kept them in playoff contention for most of the season. They won 10 home matches in 2024 but still ended up six points outside the playoff line.
Under Eric Quill, Dallas has seen three regular-season home defeats after leading in the second half. Those missed opportunities have cost them dearly — the nine points dropped are the current difference between mid-table and the top four in the Western Conference.
Defensive struggles at home have also been a theme. Dallas has conceded three or more goals on three different occasions in Frisco and has kept just one clean sheet at home so far this year.
Despite the setbacks, Quill’s squad has managed to collect 21 points from their first 19 league matches — slightly ahead of where they were at this stage in 2024.
They’ll take some confidence from past meetings against Minnesota. Dallas is unbeaten in their last four MLS games against the Loons and earned a thrilling 5-3 win in this fixture last season.
Minnesota United, meanwhile, have been consistent near the top of the Western Conference table this year, though they’ve let several results slip away.
Their draw against the New York Red Bulls last weekend marked the fifth time in 2025 they’ve failed to secure a win after scoring first. That pattern has cost them 11 points already this season.
Still, Eric Ramsay’s team has been difficult to beat. The 4-2 loss to San Diego remains their only defeat in their last eight matches across all competitions.
Minnesota arrives in Texas unbeaten in their last three road matches in domestic play and has only lost twice on the road in 2025.
However, their away form has dipped slightly. They’ve allowed five goals in their last two league games as visitors — more than they conceded in their previous five away fixtures combined.
The Loons haven’t picked up a regular-season win in Texas since a 3-0 result over the Houston Dynamo back in July 2023. Their most recent victory at Toyota Stadium came in February of that year, a narrow 1-0 decision.
On the injury front, Dallas was without Osaze Urhoghide on the final matchday of June due to an upper leg injury. Paxton Pomykal was dealing with a bruised knee, and Anderson Julio missed out because of a lower leg problem.
Petar Musa continues to lead the team in goals this season, scoring his seventh of the campaign in the loss to San Diego. Sebastian Lletget added his first goal of the year in that match.
Minnesota is expected to be without Morris Duggan again as he continues his recovery from a back issue. There’s a chance that Dayne St. Clair, Tani Oluwaseyi, and Carlos Harvey could return following their Gold Cup duties, but Joseph Rosales might miss this game if Honduras progresses to the final — they play their semifinal on Wednesday.
Kelvin Yeboah and Anthony Markanich gave the Loons a 2-0 first-half lead against the Red Bulls, but a late equalizer in the 90th minute meant they had to settle for just one point.
