There’s a new star in town, and Dallas is making sure he feels at home.
The Dallas Cowboys, despite being in offseason mode until their training camp opens in late July, took a moment to welcome Cooper Flagg, the No. 1 overall pick in the 2025 NBA Draft. Flagg, who lit up the college basketball scene at Duke, is now officially a member of the Dallas Mavericks.
The Cowboys extended their greetings on social media, sharing a custom graphic and message celebrating Flagg’s arrival in the city. It’s a gesture that highlights the strong connection between Dallas’ pro sports franchises, where the players support one another on and off the field.
Flagg is not the only top overall pick to the Dallas sports scene this year. Earlier in 2025, Paige Bueckers, a standout guard from UConn, was selected first overall by the Dallas Wings in the WNBA Draft, which marked a rare event where one city claims both top picks in the NBA and WNBA in the same year.
Dallas is no stranger to hosting top-tier athletes, and it seems the sports community is embracing this new wave of elite talent. The Cowboys, in particular, have a tradition of showing up for other teams in the city. During the NHL playoffs earlier this year, several offensive linemen from the Cowboys could be spotted at Dallas Stars games, cheering from the stands.
Now all eyes will be on whether Cooper Flagg returns the favor. Will the new face of the Mavericks make an appearance at AT\&T Stadium once football is back? Time will tell.
For Dallas sports fans, it’s already shaping up to be a year filled with talent, unity, and excitement across all major leagues.
