Chet Holmgren, Thunder Finalize $250M Rookie Max Deal Ahead of Summer League

Chet Holmgren has committed his long-term future to the Oklahoma City Thunder after agreeing to a five-year rookie maximum extension reportedly worth up to $250 million. The agreement, confirmed by agent Billy Duffy of WME Basketball, locks the 7-foot-1 center into the Thunder lineup through the 2030-31 NBA season.

The contract is fully guaranteed with no player or team option included.

Holmgren, 23, played a key role in the Thunder’s championship-winning game, He posted an averages of 15 points, 8.0 rebounds, 2.2 blocks, and 2.0 assists across 32 regular-season games in 2024-25. His season was interrupted by a hip injury that kept him out for three months, but he returned in time to impact the postseason.

In 23 playoff appearances, Holmgren contributed 12.9 points, 8.7 rebounds, 1.9 blocks, and 1.0 assist per game. During the NBA Finals against the Indiana Pacers, he delivered 12.3 points, 8.9 boards, and 1.6 blocks per contest as Oklahoma City secured the title.

The No. 2 overall pick in the 2022 NBA Draft, Holmgren missed his original rookie season due to a foot injury but made a strong impact when he finally debuted. In the 2023-24 campaign, he started all 82 games and averaged 16.5 points, 7.9 rebounds, 2.4 assists, and 2.3 blocks.

The Thunder also made headlines earlier this week by extending their franchise star, Shai Gilgeous-Alexander. The Canadian guard, fresh off a historic season where he captured the regular-season MVP, scoring title, and Finals MVP—becoming the first to do so since Shaquille O’Neal in 2000—signed a four-year, $285 million extension.

Oklahoma City returns to action on Thursday night, taking on the Brooklyn Nets in a Summer League clash scheduled for 7:30 p.m. EDT in Las Vegas.
