Men’s National Team returns to Québec for the first time in eight years
Canada’s Men’s National Team is scheduled to face Australia in an international friendly this fall, marking the first time the team will play in Montréal since 2017.
The matchup, officially confirmed by Canada Soccer and Football Australia, will take place on Friday, October 10, 2025, at Stade Saputo in Montréal. Kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m. Eastern Time. The last time Canada played in the city was a 2-1 win over Curaçao, a match remembered for the senior debut of Alphonso Davies.
Tickets for the friendly between Canada and Australia will become available to the public on Saturday, July 19. Early access will be granted through a series of presale windows beginning days earlier.
Australia, currently ranked 26th in the world by FIFA, recently booked a place at the 2026 World Cup after a narrow 2-1 victory over Saudi Arabia in June. The Socceroos have qualified for every World Cup since 2006 and bring experience that could prove valuable for Canada as they prepare to co-host next summer’s global tournament.
“We’re thrilled to be back in Montréal for the first time in years,” said Jesse Marsch, head coach of Canada’s Men’s National Team. “Bringing our team to communities across the country is a major part of how we’re building momentum ahead of 2026. We know the fans in Québec will create an incredible atmosphere.”
Canada and Australia have a long-standing football rivalry dating back to their first meeting in 1924. Over nine matches played—spanning friendlies and World Cup qualifiers—Canada holds a record of three wins, one draw, and five defeats. One of the most memorable showdowns came during the 1994 FIFA World Cup Qualifiers, where Canada secured a 2-1 win in Edmonton before falling to the Aussies in the return leg on penalties after a 1-2 loss in Sydney.
This fixture finalizes Canada’s schedule for the fall international window. Canada Soccer recently confirmed that the team will also face Colombia, ranked 14th by FIFA, on October 14. Before that, the team will travel to Europe for friendlies in early September against Romania (FIFA Rank 45) on the 5th and Wales (FIFA Rank 29) on the 9th.
