Bruno Fernandes will remain at Old Trafford.
According to BBC Sport’s Simon Stone, the Manchester United captain has turned down a mega offer from Saudi club Al-Hilal.
While no official bid was submitted for the 30-year-old Portugal midfielder, the offer was reportedly around £100 million, with Fernandes expected to receive a pay package close to £250 million.
The urgency in the dealings stemmed from the team’s desire to secure a marquee to sign ahead of this month’s Club World Cup in the United States.
A native of the Porto area, Fernandes joined Manchester United in January 2020 in a £47 million transfer from Sporting, and since then, he has scored 98 goals in 290 appearances across all competitions for the Red Devils.
Fernandes was one of the few bright spots in a season where the team endured its worst performance in nearly fifty years, finishing 15th in the Premier League. He scored 19 goals in 57 appearances across all competitions.
With United, Fernandes has won an FA Cup and a League Cup.
Internationally, he’s been capped 78 times by Portugal, scoring 78 goals. He’s appeared at two World Cups and two European Championships.
