Bruins Bank on Morgan Geekie’s Breakout Potential with $33M Deal

The Boston Bruins are making a long-term bet on Morgan Geekie’s upside, signing the 25-year-old forward to a six-year, $33 million contract in what could prove to be a high-value move for the Eastern Conference contenders.

Geekie’s growth became increasingly evident during the 2024-25 season. As the Bruins navigated a turbulent stretch late in the year, Geekie stood out as one of the few bright spots. Despite the team’s overall struggles, he developed chemistry with star winger David Pastrnak and emerged as one of the NHL’s top-performing forwards down the stretch.

From December 1 onward, Geekie ranked fourth in goal scoring across the league, trailing only Pastrnak, Leon Draisaitl, and Tage Thompson. That elite company reflects the kind of offensive ceiling Boston believes he hasn’t fully tapped into yet.

Bruins’ Gamble Rooted in Kraken Success

Boston’s front office had long believed Geekie was more than just a role player during his time with the Seattle Kraken. In his final season there, he posted an impressive 2.47 points per 60 minutes—an elite rate that hinted at bigger things. While his numbers dipped slightly to 2.36 points per 60 in 2024-25, the Bruins see that as evidence of potential still waiting to be unlocked.

Geekie didn’t solidify his role alongside Pastrnak until later in the season, when Elias Lindholm took over centre duties and allowed the winger duo to flourish. Once that trio clicked, Boston’s top line became a serious threat, even as the rest of the forward group lagged..

What Comes Next?

With Marco Sturm now behind the bench, there’s hope the coaching staff keeps that top line intact heading into the 2025-26 campaign. Over a full 82-game season, Geekie could be in line for a career-best year. If he delivers 60 or even 70 points, the Bruins’ decision to commit \$33 million to him will look like one of the league’s smartest deals.

Locking down a high-performing winger to play across from Pastrnak at an affordable cap hit would give Boston valuable roster flexibility. It could also allow Sturm to shift his attention toward deepening the rest of his forward group.

Final Thought

If Morgan Geekie keeps trending upward, this extension could end up as one of the Bruins’ best investments in recent years, turning a calculated risk into a major reward.
