Bradley Beal Reportedly Won’t Be Back With Suns After Kevin Durant Trade

The Phoenix Suns agreed to trade Kevin Durant to the Houston Rockets on Sunday in exchange for Jalen Green, Dillon Brooks, the 10th pick in this year’s NBA Draft and five second-round picks.

The Suns acquired Durant from the Brooklyn Nets in 2023, winning only one postseason series with the NBA legend.

Phoenix now has three shooting guards on the roster: Green, Bradley Beal and Devin Booker.

According to John Gambadoro of Arizona Sports 98.7, the Suns plan to keep Green. Booker, who has spent his entire career in Phoenix, is widely expected to sign an extension with the Suns this offseason.

That leaves Beal as the odd man out. Even though the veteran has a no-trade clause in his contract, he won’t be back in Phoenix, per Gambadoro.

The Suns acquired Beal from the Washington Wizards in 2023. Beal has appeared in 106 games with Phoenix. He’s averaging 17.6 points, 3.9 rebounds and 4.3 assists.

A three-time All-Star, Beal will make $53.7 million next season. He has a player option worth $57.1 million for the 2026-27 season.

Beal turns 32 on June 28. He has career averages of 21.5 points, 4.1 rebounds and 4.3 assists in 801 games with the Wizards and Suns.

The Minnesota Timberwolves swept the Suns in the first round of the 2024 playoffs. Phoenix was so putrid this year that the team didn’t even make the play-in tournament despite having Durant, Booker and Beal.

The Suns hired Frank Vogel in 2023 but fired him in 2024. Mike Budenholzer was hired in 2024 but fired in 2025.

Phoenix hired Cleveland Cavaliers assistant Jordan Ott to replace Budenholzer. Let’s see how long Ott last in the desert.

Since making the NBA Finals in 2021, the Suns haven’t even been back to the conference finals.
