Canadian international Jonathan David appears increasingly unlikely to join Serie A clubs Napoli or Juventus this summer, with multiple foreign sides now leading the race for the Lille forward’s signature.
Just a few weeks ago, Napoli were reportedly close to landing David. Moretto claims the Italian champions had a verbal agreement in place, offering a four-year deal worth more than €6 million per season. However, the situation has shifted.
“Right now, the chances of seeing David in Italy are fading. He’s certainly closer to a foreign destination,” Moretto shared in a recent update.
Juventus, another Serie A contender linked to the Canadian star, may not be in a position to meet the financial expectations of David and his representatives. Despite being a free agent from July 1, David is still expected to command a fee around €34 million, likely a compensation-related figure due to training rights and add-ons.

Foreign clubs are reportedly showing stronger interest, and Moretto hinted that teams outside Italy are “pushing hard” to secure the striker’s services.
David, who has long been considered one of Canada’s brightest footballing exports, has made it clear he wants clarity on his future before the preseason begins.
David Speaks on Interest from Napoli and Juventus
The Lille forward addressed recent transfer speculation in an interview with *The Athletic* earlier this week. When asked about Napoli, David acknowledged the club’s upward trajectory and Champions League ambitions.
Napoli is a club that just won the Serie A. And I’m guessing they don’t just want to win Serie A one year and say, ‘OK, we won, that’s it.’ It’s a club that’s ambitious, that’s going to play in the Champions League,” said David.
He also shared his mindset regarding pressure at top clubs, whether in Italy or elsewhere.
“There’s always pressure to perform every week—pressure to keep your spot, pressure from the supporters. You have to win every game. There is always pressure anywhere you go.”
What’s Next for Jonathan David?
David has been linked to multiple top-tier European clubs, including Premier League and Bundesliga sides. His strong record with Lille, combined with his physicality, pace, and finishing, makes him an attractive option for clubs seeking an attacking boost.
For Canadian fans, his next destination will be closely watched, especially with World Cup 2026 co-hosting responsibilities on the horizon. Wherever he lands, David will likely be seen as not just a club-level reinforcement but a global ambassador for Canadian football.
